C17 will engage with eThekwini (Durban) Municipality to provide transport between the ICC and UKZN. Citizen involvement in media creates more opportunities in the changing landscape of journalism

Journalism ain’t what it used to be. Nor, in this shifting state of professional blogging, inexpensive HD video production and high-distribution podcasting, should it be. A networked, collaborative approach to making media (and making a living from it) not only brings in multiple perspectives on issues, but allows for a story to be followed along its lifespan, regardless of whether it will sell papers or reel in advertisers. Idealistic? Nothing new would happen without that kind of vision.

Montreal‘s second Citizen Media Rendez-vous seeks to pragmatically explore these issues by creating an open environment ripe for discussion on access to and appropriation of citizen media, as well as citizen use of new media for the defence of human rights.

“People who are coming to the event are either making media themselves or have set up systems and software to create networks to help people create media,” says David Widgington, co-ordinator of this year’s day-long Rendez-vous. “Citizen media is based in non-fiction and trying to inform people about something, rather than marketing ideas.”

Out of so many voices in the social media world, a broader grouping has emerged: “media practitioners” include journalists as well as “anyone who’s using new media, social media and web-based technologies to inform others about things they know about,” says Widgington, whose educational background is in geography, with years of experience in publishing, filmmaking and documentaries. Coalition Bloggers We have to have the courage of our convictions, my friends. We cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated by these slogans and these epithets and this irresponsibility of our Prime Minister. We will stand our ground…….
And even respectful of those people who say “I don’t think this is the
respectful of those people who say “I don’t think this is the right thing to do.” . . . You say, “Fine. Let’s have that discussion.”
What I know in my bones is that if we give Mr. Harper a vote of confidence at the end of January we will live to regret it for the rest of our lives. The democratic rights that he wanted to take away with that economic statement – they are the steps that he wanted to take. Those steps are not gone. Those steps are simply sleeping. There is nothing in what he has said since then that leads me to believe that he is sorry, has changed his mind, or is prepared to mend his ways. And everyone here knows that those are the steps that are crucial before you can say you are on the road to recovery. This guy ain’t on the road to recovery; he’s on the road to ruin. And I don’t think we should be following him down that road.”

o. I miss all the people in 7-Iles to bits.and I would return to Quebec in ‘Heartbeat’..but I was kicked out by a Tamil who demanded  in his loud market trading voice; which communicated neither French nor English about his RIGHT for an extra room for his wife- ( meaning ‘my’ room)…because he had a RIGHT to privacy.  Francine explained gently to him that he has not paid since his arrival on the June 26th,2008 .  One male suggested that if he  wants privacy ; then maybe should rent a hotel room. This so-called chemist (with no job in sight) was very high-strung, and we all knew sexually demanding upn his wife…who was kind, passive and loving.   For her safety we all quietly acquiesced, since  I realised that my cold was not getting better;  and my body felt very heavy from grief and my head getting thicker with each passing moment.

Learnt:  Telus (BC) is the communications provider for Sept-Iles..(so all telphone calls and e-mail go through B.C. first) Go Figure!  2. Je suis Suisse  3. All financial transactions are done in cash. ( i.e. there is no proof that I was ever there. Therefore the cash financial transactions between Mulroney Schreiber  was perfectly correct and moral in the terms of the culture from where these men derived their business habits.
And finally to the man with the Ducks Unlimited briefcase…..I miss you much!!!
p.s. The is a rumour spreading that the “Tall Ships” will be returning to St.Lawrence River Ports next year .Whoopee!! More general Insanity around the perimeter of the Ville de Quebec! Love It! More Security Airspace Lockdown for 5 hours…Wonderfull!!

Marie Walesivich just phoned to ask how I was doing. I hit the wall Friday…and it took two days to recover from the drinking that followed- a litre of white wine…and I still could NOT recover!!  My Romanian Aunt ( in true Romanian fashion ) phoned me Friday evening…this was to be followed by Jamie D. from the Sally Ann ( why did he not say there had been a stabbing!!!) You have to read the truth about him, in the police reports in the newspaper…anyway… packing clothes, appraising furniture and nick-knacks…Thank Gawd ,there has been hurricane winds, tornadoes and hail stones in my little corner of the universe. Made my world feel better!!Looking through the M.L.S. for a house or land sustainable in Canada. The cheapest in Quebec-…I would need a car…was $80,000 Four-season cottage in St.Elie. with wood stove. ( Is it insulated , the floors ( i.e. basement)..with what? The Caisse Desjardins mortgages at 2.5%…is there a QC. catch ??
